To improve the anti-tank defense for German aufklar'ngs (reconnaissance) units, when the plans were laid to replace halftracks with fully tracked vehicles, the Wehrmacht also decided to improve the standard anti-tank gun. Where the older vehicles had carried the standard 7.5cm PaK 40, the new vehicle was to carry a 7.5cm /L48 gun. This is the same gun mounted on the E10, or improved Hetzer. With the engine mounted in the rear of the vehicle, the recon series (GHQ calls them SdKfz 350's) could scoot along at 52 kilometers per hour.
