An artillery observation vehicle based on the SdKfz. 250 halftrack. A total of 285 vehicles were produced between 1940 and 1941. Intended for service with Sturmgeshutz battalions they often were employed by other artillery units. The 253 was eventually supplanted and replaced by the cheaper 250/5.
Also known as leichter Gepanzerter Beobachtungskraftwagen.
